Romanian MEP Diana Sosoaca warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that she would “break his legs” if he visited her parliament after a Moscow meeting on 19 October.
Threat to Ukrainian President
Diana Sosoaca, member of the European Parliament and leader of the SOS Romania movement, stated that if President Volodymyr Zelensky were to cross into the Romanian parliament, she would “break his legs” and prevent any speech.
Parliamentary Rights Assertion
She argued that Romanian MPs are the sole representatives of national sovereignty and that it is her duty to defend that sovereignty and defend against enemies of the nation.
Political Trajectory
Sosoaca was elected to the Romanian Senate in 2020 on the AUR party list but was expelled in 2021, prompting the formation of her own party, SOS Romania. She became an MEP in July 2024 and positions herself against migration, the EU, and COVID‑19 vaccination.
Controversies and International Sanctions
According to Kyiv Post, Sosoaca was fined in late 2021 for hate speech. In Russia, the state news agency Sputnik named her Politician of the Year 2021. In 2025 she received a three‑year ban from Ukraine issued by the Security Service of Ukraine.
