Russia and Hungary Say Preparations for Putin‑Trump Summit Are Underway

Russia and Hungary claim the hard‑work for a postponed Putin‑Trump summit is progressing while the U.S. president declares the meeting unattainable for now.

Russia Confirms Ongoing Preparations

Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said there were no obstacles to a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and that preparations for the summit in Budapest were progressing. The comment came after President Trump postponed the summit. Ryabkov stressed that the focus remains on substantive matters and that scheduling details are secondary.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Orban Signals Readiness

Prime Minister Viktor Orban replied to Trump’s delay by stating that Hungary would organize the summit when the time comes. He posted on a social‑media platform that preparations for a “peaceful summit” in Budapest are underway as part of his diplomatic visit to Washington. Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó earlier warned against attempts to block the summit with rumors and fake news.

Trump Declares Meeting Unattainable for Now

President Trump announced that the meeting with Putin was postponed indefinitely, arguing that it would bring no results. Kremlin and White House timelines suggest that Russia is not yet ready for a meeting that would require Putin to agree to a military‑freeze. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy, backed by European leaders, supported the proposed halt but expresses doubt that Putin would consent.
