On Wednesday, 22 October, a man fired several rounds from a pistol into a tent positioned adjacent to the Serbian parliament building, striking a supporter of President Aleksandar Vucic and causing injuries. The incident, which did not disrupt parliamentary proceedings, prompted an immediate police response.

Arrested Man Admits Taking Gasoline Can

Police footage shows the suspect admitting he brought a gasoline can to one of the tents set up by Vucic supporters, stating that the tents irritated him. He claimed he acted alone and expressed frustration over the occupation of the city center.

Prosecutor Announces Charges, Calls It a “Violence” Incident

Prosecutor General Nenad Stefanović informed that the 70‑year‑old suspect is detained on charges including illegal possession of firearms, attempted murder, arms trafficking, and creating a general danger. He was held for at least 48 hours and did not use the term “terrorist act” in his statement.

Second Indictment in New Sad Collapse Sent to Court

In September, the Serbian prosecutor’s office forwarded a second indictment against 13 individuals responsible for the New Sad railway station collapse that killed 16 people. The first indictment was dismissed earlier, and the new list includes former transport minister Goran Vesica among the accused.

Protests Continue Amid Calls for Justice and Early Elections

Massive protests, many organized by students, have spread across Serbia demanding justice for the collapse victims, expedited parliamentary elections, and removal of President Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party. Citizens blame neglect and corruption for the tragedy.
