Russian Ship Near UK; NATO Orders HMS Duncan

A Russian destroyer entered the English Channel near the UK, prompting NATO to order the British frigate HMS Duncan to intercept.

Operation Overview

According to the Royal Navy, NATO issued an order to the British frigate HMS Duncan stationed in Portsmouth to intercept a Russian destroyer commanded by Vice Admiral Kulakow. The destroyer moved through the Channel towards the French coast.

Technological Advantage

The destroyer employed advanced sensors and surveillance systems to monitor its passage across the North Sea and onward to Ouessant in western France.

Aerial Support

A Wildcat helicopter from the 815 Squadron of the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm provided air support and maintained surveillance over the Russian vessel, while Dutch NH90 helicopters and the French navy also participated.

UK Defence Minister Patrick Al Carns said the Royal Navy is ready to respond to any Russian naval activity, conducting ongoing monitoring operations to protect UK waters and territorial seas.
