Alarm After Krakow Flight: Passengers May Have Been Silently Infected

A passenger on a Wizz Air flight from Tel Aviv to Krakow on 19 October carried measles, returning to Israel on 21 October, prompting the Israeli Health Ministry to ask all passengers to confirm their measles vaccination status.

Urgent Appeal to Wizz Air Passengers

According to Poland’s News Agency quoted by Superexpress.pl, a measles‑positive individual travelled on Wizz Air flight W6 2098 from Tel Aviv to Krakow on Sunday 19 October and flew back to Israel on Tuesday 21 October (flight W6 2097). The Israeli Health Ministry urged all passengers on both flights to check their measles vaccination status.

Epidemic in Israel

Since May, the central region of Israel has recorded a sharp rise in measles cases, with health officials noting a high incidence among unvaccinated children. Five children died, and officials stressed that none of the fatalities had been vaccinated, leading to repeated appeals for mandatory childhood immunisation.

Measles Vaccination Call in Poland

Poland includes the measles vaccine in its compulsory schedule, with the first dose given between 13 and 15 months and a second at age six. Doctors encourage parents to verify whether their children have received the shots and to avoid ignoring the immunisation schedule.

Measles Symptoms

The measles virus spreads by droplets from nasal and throat secretions, transmitted through coughs or sneezes. It is highly contagious; 90 percent of unprotected individuals become infected after contact with a case. Symptoms reported by health authorities include severe fever, rash, and conjunctivitis, among others.
