On Friday, 24 October, the Law and Justice party opened its policy convention in Katowice, but internal clashes and a heavy tilt toward party insiders left its chairman publicly disappointed.
Convention Opens Amid Internal Discord
The convention began at 10:00 a.m. as scheduled, featuring over 100 panels with more than 600 guests, including both PiS MPs and some experts. Despite promises of an intellectual ferment and fresh perspectives, the event was widely reported as dominated by party members, leaving little space for outsider voices.
Kurski Sparks Controversy Over Panel Inclusion
Former TVP president Jacek Kurski joined the discussion on media reforms. This inclusion was controversial; some MPs were angered by his presence, noting that the party had previously rejected the same platform in 2023 but now presented it again with even more emphasis.
Panelists Skewed Toward PiS Members, Experts Strike Out
During the reform panel, it emerged that lawmaker and lawyer Paweł Jabłoński was pulled from the session after interventions by politicians such as Zbigniew Ziobro. Initially set to replace Ziobro, both ended up participating in the discussion, reflecting the party’s preference for internal figures over external experts.
Kaczynski Announces 2027 Election Program Development
Party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński opened the event, emphasizing that the convention is not a finale but the starting point for assembling a 2027 parliamentary campaign program. He cited the need to address issues such as legal system and constitution reform to guarantee Poland’s sovereignty.
Call for Legal System Overhaul Highlighted
Kaczyński stressed that the new program must tackle systemic changes, including a complete overhaul of the legal framework to ensure unequivocal national sovereignty.
