Measles‑Infected Passenger on Flight to Krakow Triggers Vaccine Check

Poland’s health ministry warned passengers on Wizz Air’s Tel Aviv‑to‑Krakow flights, arriving Oct. 19–21, to verify their measles vaccination status after a passenger tested positive for the disease.

Measles Infection on Wizz Air Flight

A passenger who had flown from Tel Aviv to Krakow on Wizz Air Flight 2098 on Sunday, October 19, tested positive for measles. The same individual returned to Israel on Flight 2097 on Tuesday, October 21.

In response, the Israeli Ministry of Health has urged passengers on both legs of the journey to check their vaccination status.

Epidemic in Israel

Since May, central Israel has seen a high number of measles cases, mostly among unvaccinated children. Five children have died, and all fatalities were unvaccinated.

The health authorities have repeatedly called for mandatory vaccination of children to curb the outbreak.

Mandatory Measles Vaccination in Poland

Poland includes measles vaccination in its compulsory immunisation schedule. The first dose is given between the 13th and 15th month of life, and a second dose at six years of age.

Doctors encourage parents to verify their child’s vaccination record and to administer the shots promptly.

Signs of Measles

The measles virus spreads via droplets from the nose and throat, and is highly contagious; 90 percent of unprotected individuals contract the disease after contact.

Typical symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic rash.
