Poland faces a weather system over the North Sea, sparking an RCB alert and IMGW warnings of heavy rainfall and potential flooding on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
IMGW warns of intense rainfall
The Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) warns of intense rain following a low‑pressure system from the North Sea, bringing cold and moist air. On the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 24, heavy precipitation is expected nationwide: up to 70 liters per square metre in the Tatra Mountains, and up to 35 liters elsewhere in Małopolska and Podkarpacie. Orange second‑level alerts have been issued for Tatra County, while yellow alerts cover Oświęcim, Nowy Sącz, and Bieszczady counties.
RCB alert for Tatra residents
The Government Security Centre (RCB) has issued an alert for residents of southern Małopolska about potential flooding. A warning message was sent to Tatra County inhabitants: “Attention! Today (24.10) intense rainfall. Possible flooding. Do not approach swollen rivers. Follow authorities’ instructions.” Experts advise monitoring local updates, securing homes and vehicles, and preparing sandbags.
Rainy and windy end of the week
On Friday, the nation will experience predominantly overcast skies, with brief sunshine spreading only across the western region. Temperatures will range from 8‑12 °C in the southeastern area, about 11 °C centrally, and up to 15 °C in the east. In the mountains it will be considerably cooler, with some locations as low as 6 °C. Winds will remain moderate to strong, reaching 75‑95 km/h in the Tatra and Sudetes ranges and potentially generating snow drifts.
