Today, October 25, before noon, a Mercedes collided with a Volkswagen on Strażackiej Street at the intersection with Żołnierska. After the impact, the Volkswagen pierced a fence and entered a nearby retention tank.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Volkswagen driver was coming down Strażacka from the Chełmżyńska side. She turned right under the viaduct and intended to U‑turn. Distracted, she applied hard brakes, which caused the Mercedes driver to collide backward into her vehicle. Shocked, the woman abruptly accelerated, rammed the tank fence, and plunged into the water.
Emergency Response
Firefighters, medical rescue personnel, and police patrol arrived on the scene. The firefighters secured the vehicle in the tank, and rescuers examined the driver and her child. Finding no injuries, the incident was classified simply as a collision.
Outcome
Police identified the Volkswagen driver as responsible for the incident. After the firefighters removed the car from the tank, operations at the unusual scene were concluded.
