Trump Declares He Will Not Waste Time, Sets Condition on Putin for Ending Ukraine War

President Trump, on the Qatari capital, warned that he will not waste time and must conclude a deal to end the Ukraine war, pushing for a meeting with president Vladimir Putin that has yet to materialise.

Last Direct Talks Between U.S. and Russia

The U.S. and Russian presidents last met directly in Alaska on Aug. 15, but the summit failed to reach an agreement despite claims of progress in peace talks.

Subsequent to that meeting, President Trump announced a telephone conversation with Putin and later said he would arrange an in‑person meeting in Budapest. However, on Oct. 21 the White House said no such meeting would take place in the near future.

Trump Declares He Will Not Waste Time, Urges a Deal

While in Doha, Qatar, President Trump answered reporters about a possible meeting with Putin. He insisted that a final agreement must be reached and that time would be wasted otherwise.

Earlier statements indicated that Trump anticipated the meeting would likely not occur due to a lack of a “good sense.” He now said the encounter was postponed but will happen in the future.

Russian Envoy Seeks Diplomatic End to the War

Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s special envoy, said the United States, Russia, and Ukraine are close to a diplomatic solution that would end the war. The envoy, who is currently in Washington, referred to the cancelled Trump‑Putin meeting and asserted it would occur at a later date.

Dmitriev also noted that new U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia are unlikely to have a significant impact on the Russian economy.
