Heavy Snow Makes Czech‑Border Road in Lower Silesia Impassable; Police Urge Drivers to Stay Off

For days, intense snowfall in Lower Silesia left the Jakuszyce‑Czech border road completely impassable, prompting police to detain trucks and advise motorists to use winter tyres.

Winter Weather in Lower Silesia

Intense snowfall turned the stretch of road from Jakuszyce to the Czech border into a completely impassable route for vehicles. Police detained trucks at a parking lot near the Piast intersection close to DK5 while traffic was halted.

Officials reported waiting for road‑maintenance crews to clear and re‑grade the section; shortly thereafter conditions stabilized and traffic resumed.

Police Appeal and Warn

Officers urged drivers to adjust their speed to the road conditions and exercise extra caution, noting that most motorists are still on summer tyres, which hinder driving on snow and ice.

The Low Silesian Police Command in Jelenia Góra warned against venturing onto the road without appropriate vehicle preparation, especially without winter tyres, and advised that cars experiencing traction problems should be left in a safe spot to avoid blocking traffic.

They reminded that road safety depends on driver responsibility and that even a short stretch can become dangerous in the current weather.
