On Sunday, 26 October, military and rescue helicopters flew over Warsaw as part of a planned drill to test a mass casualty response, involving transport from a fire academy to the city hospital.
Helicopter Training Over Warsaw
On Sunday, 26 October, military and rescue helicopters performed a training exercise above Warsaw. The maneuver was planned and posed no danger to residents, and it was coupled with a test of hospital protocols around Żwirka, Wigura, and Banacha streets.
Take‑off and Landing Points
The helicopters departed from the Academy of Fire Service training ground in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki and transported simulated injured patients to the Clinical Hospital of Warsaw Medical University. They were most visible near the hospital complex at Banacha.
Mass‑Casualty Readiness Test
The operation aimed to assess the emergency department’s preparedness for a large influx of patients following a serious traffic accident. This year the drill incorporated air transport and civil‑military cooperation, according to WUM rescue officer Marcin Janik.
Scenario: Simulated Train Accident
The scenario involved a simulated railway accident with many injured, with medical transport carried out from the academy training ground directly to a drop zone beside the WUM complex.
Public Reassurance
Visible helicopter activity over Warsaw today was part of the scheduled exercise. Residents were advised to remain calm as the operations were controlled and posed no threat.
