Polish cemeteries will enforce new waste‑sorting rules on November 1, imposing fines of up to 5 000 zł for violations.
Red Bins for Batteries and LED Candles
Starting November 1, cemeteries will add red containers for discarded batteries and LED candles, alongside the traditional glass, paper, bio, and mixed waste receptacles.
If a cemetery lacks a red bin, visitors must take these items to a municipal selective collection point or a specialized battery‑collection station.
Colour‑Coded Container System
Green bins hold glass, blue hold paper, brown hold biowaste, yellow collects plastics and metals, while black is for mixed waste.
Some cemeteries will also label bins with words such as “candles” or “offering” to aid visitors in proper sorting.
Penalties for Improper Disposal
Disposing of batteries or LED candles in the wrong bin can incur fines of up to 500 zł.
Failure to comply may lead to court proceedings with potential penalties reaching 5 000 zł.
