Russia Announces Comprehensive Arms Program Focused on Nuclear Triad Modernization

Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled a 2027‑2036 weapons program that prioritizes the upgrade of the nuclear triad and broadens defense production.

Vladimir Putin: Much to Improve

Putin said the new program will continue to develop high‑tech weapons production with maximum automation, greater efficiency, and lower costs. He highlighted the need to expand testing facilities, deploy AI technologies, and develop advanced materials.

He added that although significant progress has been made, further improvement is required.

Modernization of the Nuclear Triad

The program will strengthen the nuclear deterrent, covering land‑based missile forces, coastal launch platforms, and strategic air forces.

Other priorities include space assets, air‑defence systems, communications, electronic warfare, unmanned and robotic systems, and weapons based on new technologies.

New Russian Weapons Program Overview

The plan covers a wide range of advanced armaments grounded in combat experience. Focus areas are land‑force capability, nuclear triad upkeep, universal air‑defence, and boosting export potential.

Increased Production Output

Putin claimed that, compared to 2022, production of Russian military equipment surged in 2025 due to the Ukraine conflict: armoured vehicles up 2.2 times, light armoured vehicles 3.7 times, fighter aircraft 4.6 times, cars 5.7 times, rocket artillery 9.6 times, communications and electronic warfare gear 12.5 times, ballistic vests 17.9 times, and weapons and ammunition over 22 times.
