Trump‑Zelensky Meeting Confirmed by the White House
According to a White House statement, the meeting will take place in Florida on 28 December at 21:00 Polish time. The discussion will centre on a 20‑point peace plan, focusing on security and territorial matters. Zelensky told reporters that the document is 90 % ready, but he said he cannot yet predict whether any agreement will be reached.
Peace Talks
Zelensky added that the agenda will be broad, with security guarantees also on the table. He said several related documents exist and it is desirable to discuss all of them. He cautioned that he cannot yet say whether this meeting with Trump will resolve everything. He emphasised that, on territorial issues, Ukraine will raise all questions and points of divergence.
Territorial Decisions Remain the Most Contentious Issue
Zelensky confirmed that he will address the status of Eastern Ukraine and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which Russia has controlled since early in the invasion. Russia has demanded that Kyiv withdraw from parts of Donetsk still under Ukrainian control to gain full authority over a larger Donbas area. The United States has floated the idea of a free economic zone if Ukraine cedes control of contested territory, though details remain unclear. Ukraine also wants the peace plan to freeze the front line, maintain an 800‑thousand‑strong army, and provide security guarantees akin to NATO Article V.
