U.S. President Donald Trump insisted he will not approve any Ukraine peace plan until he reviews it, ahead of his upcoming meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida.
Trump Urges Personal Approval of Ukraine Peace Plan
In a Politico interview, President Trump stated, “Zelensky has nothing until I approve it.” He added that he will “examine what he has” and will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin “as often as he wants or as he wants.”
Zelensky Aims to Discuss 20‑Point Peace Plan with Trump
Zelensky will meet Trump on Sunday in Florida to review a 20‑point peace plan and security guarantees. The Ukrainian president says the document is 90 % complete, confirming Ukraine’s sovereignty and mutual pledges to refrain from aggression. He proposes that the Donbas region, occupied by Russia, become a demilitarised economic zone.
Kremlin Reports Contact Between Russian and U.S. Officials
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the Russian authorities had analysed information sent by envoy Kirill Dmitriyev, who met U.S. envoy Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Miami last week. He noted that, following President Putin’s directive, contacts between Russian and American officials have been established and will be continued, with the dialogue set to continue.
