A massive fire erupted on the night of 26–27 December at Warsaw’s Bakalarska Market, prompting a 12‑crew firefighting effort that was ultimately contained by 50 firefighters, while police investigate the cause.
Firebreaks at Bakalarska Market
A blaze broke out on the night of 26–27 December at the market on Bakalarska Street, around 1:00 a.m. Firefighters brought the fire under control, with a peak of 12 crews on scene. By 9:00 a.m. the flames were extinguished, and no casualties were reported.
Containment Efforts and Firefighter Deployment
The suppression operation lasted over five hours and mobilized nearly 50 firefighters. While the street was closed in both directions, the forces worked until the fire was fully out.
Involved Hazardous Containers and Inspection
Several maritime containers that had been converted into commercial premises caught fire. Six gas cylinders were removed and examined by thermal‑vision cameras, and no signs of overheating were found. The site was also monitored by P‑Gaz and a chemical reconnaissance vehicle, and post‑examination the containers were found free of residual fire.
Police Investigate Fire Origins
Police are now on the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire that swept the Bakalarska market. Their specialists will conduct a detailed investigation after the firefighting crews left.
