Trump‑Zelensky Meeting
The White House confirmed that the meeting between President Donald Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky will take place in Florida on Sunday, December 28 at 9 p.m. Polish time, with both leaders set to talk about territorial disputes that block progress in peace negotiations.
Pre‑Meeting Developments
Before the Florida meeting, Ukraine stated that the discussion could be decisive as Washington has intensified efforts to end Europe’s bloodiest conflict since World War II. The Ukrainian president noted on social media that many issues could be resolved before the New Year. On Saturday, a phone call is scheduled between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Zelensky, Trump, and European leaders; the EU representative reported this to Reuters.
Peace Talks
Zelensky will raise the status of eastern Ukraine and the Zaporohe nuclear power plant, which remains under Russian control. Moscow demands a withdrawal from parts of the Donetsk region still held by Ukraine, while the United States proposes creating a free economic zone if Ukraine relinquishes control of the disputed area, though implementation details are unclear.
Ukrainians also seek a peace plan that freezes the front line, preserves an 800‑thousand‑strong army, and provides security guarantees similar to NATO Article 5.
