215 PLN Monthly Benefit Available for Diabetics, Many Fail to Claim

Polish diabetics may qualify for a 215 PLN monthly care benefit in 2026, though many eligible individuals fail to apply.

What is the Care Allowance?

Individuals with diabetes may receive a care allowance in 2026. While not exclusively for diabetics, this benefit can be granted to those with the condition under specific circumstances. The formal requirements and the impact of the disease on daily functioning are key considerations.

The allowance aims to partially cover expenses related to providing care or assistance to individuals unable to function independently. This means that in certain situations, a diabetic person may be eligible for the care allowance.

Who Qualifies for the Allowance?

The care allowance is granted to beneficiaries under the Family Benefits Act. It is provided regardless of income level, but not everyone will receive it.

Diabetes itself does not automatically entitle one to the care allowance, as regulations do not include a specific list of diseases that guarantee this benefit. The decisive factor is “inability to exist independently,” meaning the actual impact of the disease and its complications on daily life.

Diabetes and Disability Assessment

Obtaining a disability assessment certificate is crucial for applying for the care allowance. The first step is to submit an application to the appropriate District Team for Assessing Disability, accompanied by complete medical documentation including medical certificates, test results, and if available, an opinion from a diabetologist.

A meeting with a committee follows, after which a decision is made on granting or refusing the disability assessment certificate. In case of a negative decision, an appeal can be made to the Provincial Team for Assessing Disability (WZON) within 14 days.

How to Apply for the Allowance

After obtaining the disability assessment certificate, apply for the care allowance at the Municipal or Social Assistance Center. Forms are available both in offices and in electronic versions. The application must include:

Following submission, wait for the administrative decision regarding the care allowance, which is typically issued within 30 days of a complete application.

When the Allowance May Be Denied

In practice, having a disability assessment certificate does not guarantee receiving the care allowance. Regulations provide situations where the benefit cannot be paid. These include cases where:

For type 1 diabetes, the commission considers the effects of the disease rather than the diagnosis itself. Possible grounds for granting the benefit in adults may include complications such as:

For type 2 diabetes, the allowance is granted only in severe complications such as limb amputations or vision loss. Generally, it is easier to obtain the assessment for type 1 diabetes, though each case is considered individually.

Allowance Amount and Future Changes

The care allowance has remained at 215.84 PLN monthly since November 1, 2019, without adjustment. There is a possibility that this may change in 2027.
