Escape from Hospital
A 25‑year‑old man fled the Wojewódzki Podkarpacki Szpital Psychiatryczny in Żurawica on December 17 at about 18:00 while under prison‑service supervision. He had been temporarily detained on the grounds of alleged abuse towards his family. According to RMF24, he had been admitted two days earlier and was scheduled to be transferred after staff found they could not manage his behavior.
Immediate Arrest in Przemyśl
The escapee was apprehended on December 18 at 08:24 at Miejscu Obsługi Podróżnych Palikówka, within the Łańcucki district. Police from Przemyśl, combined with units from Rzeszów and the Border Guard Bieszczady, secured the location.
Police and Security Response
Responding officers included the Przemyśl police command, the Rzeszów Prevention Division, the Search and Identification Department of the National Police, the Criminal Division, and the Border Guard. The Prison Service’s Intervention Group and Przemyśl Penitentiary also assisted in the operation.
Injuries During Pursuit
During the chase, the inmate forced two sets of doors, one glass. The pursuit required the use of direct force, resulting in serious injuries to officers that necessitated emergency medical care.
Ongoing Investigation
The Prison Service has notified the appropriate prosecutor and is conducting an internal investigation. All circumstances of the incident are being examined, including any potential officer negligence.
