The Warsaw District Court has sentenced MMA fighter Dawid Mirkowski to 25 years in prison for the 2022 stabbing death of a 29-year-old man in Warsaw’s Nowy Świat district.
The 2022 Incident and Initial Proceedings
On May 8, 2022, a 29-year-old man from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region was beaten and stabbed on Nowy Świat Street in Warsaw. Despite receiving medical attention, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Łukasz G. and Sebastian W. were initially arrested and subsequently sentenced by the Warsaw Court of Appeal to seven years in prison for participating in the brawl and assault that resulted in the victim’s death.
Fugitive Apprehended in Turkey
The primary suspect, Dawid Mirkowski, fled to Turkey using his brother’s identification. He was apprehended in March 2023 and held in Turkish custody until authorities approved his extradition.
Mirkowski was returned to Poland in December 2024, where he faced a formal murder charge.
Court Ruling and Sentencing
On Tuesday, the Warsaw District Court found Dawid Mirkowski guilty, sentencing him to 25 years in prison. The court also ordered him to pay 100,000 PLN in damages to the victim’s family. The verdict is not yet final.
Judge Anna Kuzaj highlighted the gravity of the crime, noting that the victim was a young, educated man with family and future plans, and that the loss has caused irreversible trauma to his loved ones.
Defendant’s Background
Dawid Mirkowski is a mixed martial arts fighter who trained with a Warsaw Muay Thai club. He had participated in at least a dozen fights at events including DSF, KOK, and Wirtuoz, and had no prior criminal record.
