In Gliwice, Poland, a 26‑year‑old woman was convicted in March for falsely accusing a man of rape after deleting evidence, receiving a suspended eight‑month prison sentence and damages payment.
False Rape Allegation Filed in Gliwice
In August 2023, Paulina K. approached the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gliwice to report a rape that she claimed she was a victim of.
Evidence Manipulated to Support False Claim
To lend credibility to her story, she removed text messages from her phone that she had previously exchanged with the alleged perpetrator.
Man Proven Innocent
Subsequent investigations revealed that the man named by K. was not involved, establishing the accusation as false.
Verdict for False Accusation
In March, the District Court in Gliwice found K. guilty of filing a false complaint and making false statements, sentencing her to eight months’ imprisonment on suspension for three years.
She was also ordered to pay 15,000 zł to the victim, placed under probation supervision, and to make the verdict publicly available for three months.
Appeal and Confirmation of Judgment
K. appealed the decision, but in September the Regional Court in Gliwice upheld the original ruling, maintaining the sentence and conditions.
