A 29-year-old local man has been remanded in custody following a reckless high-speed chase through Garwolin, during which he committed multiple traffic violations while fleeing from criminal investigators.
The Chase and Arrest
On Tuesday, May 12, undercover criminal investigators in Garwolin identified a vehicle linked to recent fuel thefts in the region. When officers attempted to pull the driver over using sirens and emergency lights, the suspect refused to stop and initiated a desperate escape.
The 29-year-old suspect sped through city streets, overtaking at intersections, driving against traffic, mounting sidewalks, crossing pedestrian paths, and disregarding traffic signals. The pursuit concluded with the suspect being forcibly subdued after he displayed aggression and insulted the officers.
Criminal Charges and Judicial Action
Following his arrest, the man was charged with multiple counts of fuel theft. Authorities also confirmed he was driving in violation of a standing court-ordered ban issued in Otwock and faces additional charges for evading police control and insulting public officials.
He faces up to five years in prison for his actions, with separate proceedings pending for the endangerment of public safety during the chase. At the request of the police and prosecutor’s office, the court has ordered the suspect to be held in temporary detention while the District Prosecutor’s Office in Garwolin oversees the case.
