A poll shows majority support for Poland’s president to sign the SAFE law, unlocking 44 billion euros in EU military funding.
Political Tension Surrounding SAFE Law
In Monday’s article, we described the political tension around the SAFE program and statements by Krzysztof Śmiszki, who spoke about the difficult situation of the head of state regarding a potential veto. The dispute concerns huge funds for military modernization and the direction Poland should take.
Poll Results Show Strong Support for Law
Decisive support was shown for signing the law. The “Yes” answer clearly dominated. 80.59% of survey participants, or 10,603 people, supported signing the law (result from February 26, 2026). This is a clear lead over other options. 16.49% of voters disagreed, translating to 2,170 responses. The smallest group, 2.91% or 383 people, marked the “I don’t know” option. A total of 13,156 people participated in the survey.
SAFE Program: Billions for Military Modernization
The SAFE program is a 150 billion euro EU fund for rearmament. Poland could receive nearly 44 billion euros in preferential loans, including a 15% advance by March-April. Repayment would begin in 10 years and continue until 2070. The Prime Minister’s Office announced that the funds would go to systems such as SAN anti-drone systems, Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, Krab howitzers, air defense systems, ammunition, military infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The government plans to implement over 130 projects.
