Animal welfare workers rescued 46 severely neglected cats from a Wrocław apartment on February 5, all requiring urgent medical attention.
Rescued Cats in Critical Condition
On Thursday, February 5, the Society for Animal Welfare (TOZ) removed 46 cats from one of Wrocław’s apartments. “All require treatment and are in poor condition. Some are blind, and most are malnourished,” the organization stated. The cats had only a small bowl with limited dry food available, with no food reserves or drinking water, and used a basin as a litter box.
Shelter Director Describes Severity
Wrocław shelter director Aleksandra Cukier told TVN24 that the cats’ prolonged stay in the apartment would have posed a real threat to their lives and health. “Their blood tests came back disastrous,” she said. In an interview with Radio Wrocław, Cukier emphasized that most cats are in very poor condition. “I can hardly recall any that would be in satisfactory, good, or stable condition. The cats are dehydrated, emaciated, have teeth in a terrible state, and many have infectious diseases, with most also having feline infectious respiratory disease.”
Shelter Seeks Public Support
The cats have been isolated from other animals at the shelter. Shelter staff have requested public assistance in caring for the animals: “If you have the desire and means, we will always accept: donations, food, cleaning supplies, or time. Hold your thumbs tight. This is our record-breaking intervention, but we believe we can help these animals and then find loving caregivers for them.”
