A five-year-old girl is in critical condition after falling from an 11th-story window in Włocławek on Friday morning; her mother has been detained by police following reports of intoxication.

The Incident and Medical Status

The incident occurred on Friday morning at a housing estate in the Południe district of Włocławek. The child survived the fall from the 11th floor after landing on dense shrubbery beneath the building and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Bydgoszcz.

Marta Laska, spokesperson for the Dr. Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz, stated that the girl is in the pediatric intensive care unit with multi-organ injuries. Her condition is critical, and medical prognoses remain extremely cautious.

Police Investigation and Maternal Negligence

The girl had been in the apartment with her 21-year-old mother at the time of the fall. Reports indicate that the woman was asleep when the accident occurred. Alcohol testing revealed the mother had a blood alcohol concentration of one per mille, with preliminary tests also suggesting the presence of narcotics, reportedly marijuana.

The 21-year-old has been taken into police custody. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the event under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. The mother may face charges of exposing a child to immediate danger of death or serious bodily harm, which carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison.
