58-Year-Old Arrested in Warsaw for Illegal Tobacco Trafficking

Warsaw police have arrested a 58-year-old man for storing and selling contraband tobacco products in a Mokotów retail kiosk and his private residence, causing over 71,000 PLN in tax losses.

Police Crackdown on Illicit Tobacco Trade

Officers from the Economic Crime Department of the Warsaw II District Police Command apprehended a 58-year-old suspect following an investigation into the sale of tobacco products lacking mandatory Polish excise stamps. The suspect’s activities resulted in estimated losses to the State Treasury exceeding 71,000 PLN in unpaid excise and VAT.

Seizure of Contraband Goods

The operation took place several days ago at a retail pavilion in the Mokotów district. Acting on intelligence, police discovered 253 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps on-site. Subsequent searches of the suspect’s kiosk and private home led to the additional seizure of 19,500 cigarettes and 243 e-cigarettes, all lacking required fiscal markings.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

The 58-year-old has been charged with the possession of excise goods in violation of the Penal Fiscal Code. The case is currently being handled under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Mokotów.
