6-Year-Old Boy Dies in Crash After Vehicle Hits Pedestrians at Warsaw Intersection

A 6-year-old boy died Monday after a collision between two cars at a Warsaw intersection, prompting the prosecutor to detain both drivers.

On Monday, January 19, 2026, a tragic accident occurred at the intersection of Grochowska and Zamieniecka streets on Praga-Południe. A 6-year-old boy injured in the incident later died in the hospital despite resuscitation attempts at the scene and subsequent medical care.

The crash happened when a Ford failed to yield priority to a Toyota while making a left turn maneuver. After impact, the Toyota overturned and struck pedestrians waiting at a crossing, injuring several people including the child who later died.

Emergency Response

Multiple emergency services responded to the scene, including medical rescue teams, firefighters, and police. An Air Ambulance Service helicopter also participated in the operations. The actions were supervised by a prosecutor with an accident reconstruction expert present.

The accident caused significant traffic disruptions in the area, with most public transport lines rerouted and drivers experiencing delays due to emergency services’ work near the intersection.

Legal Actions

By decision of the prosecutor, drivers of both vehicles were detained for investigation. Police are working to determine the exact circumstances of the collision and how the vehicle entered the pedestrian crossing area.

Both drivers were tested for alcohol content and found to be sober. The investigation is being conducted under prosecutor supervision with the participation of a road traffic expert.

There are no adequate words to express my condolences to the family of the 5-year-old boy who died in the hospital as a result of injuries. I join in the pain of the boy’s closest relatives.”

Mayor Trzaskowski added: “I count on the efficient determination of the exact causes of the tragic accident and punishment of the perpetrators. And as the mayor of the city, I commit to further consistent action to increase the safety of all road users in Warsaw.”
