8-Year-Old Struck by Car in Mława Residential Zone

An eight-year-old girl was hospitalized in Olsztyn after being struck by a vehicle on Spółdzielcza Street in Mława on Wednesday, prompting local police to urge heightened caution for all road users.

The Incident in Mława

Mława police are currently investigating a collision that occurred at 7:00 PM on May 27 within a designated residential zone. A 39-year-old local man driving a Skoda struck an eight-year-old girl who was reportedly crossing the street alone.

Bystanders provided immediate first aid to the child before she was transported to a hospital in Olsztyn. Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was sober at the time of the accident.

Safety Responsibilities in Residential Zones

Authorities emphasized that while pedestrians have the right of way in residential zones and may utilize the entire width of the road, they must remain vigilant. The speed limit in these areas is strictly capped at 20 km/h, requiring drivers to maintain maximum concentration and be prepared for sudden pedestrian movement.

While children over the age of seven are legally permitted to navigate roads independently, officials highlighted the importance of parental guidance regarding traffic safety. As the summer vacation season approaches, raising awareness about potential road hazards remains a critical priority for child safety.
