Accident on Armii Krajowa Street
A dangerous accident occurred in Krakow on Saturday, January 17, when an elevator broke down in a building on Armii Krajowa Street in the Bronowice district. An 83-year-old woman was trapped inside when the elevator cabin stopped on the second floor. The elevator was reportedly en route to the fifth floor when the incident occurred.
Police and fire services were immediately called to the scene.
Rescue Operation Details
Firefighters from the Małopolska Fire Brigade, led by Hubert Ciepły, responded to the emergency. They disconnected the elevator’s power supply and used a technical key to access the cabin and evacuate the woman.
The elderly woman was handed over to medical rescuers and taken to the hospital for further examination. A technician overseeing the elevator’s operation and police also arrived at the scene.
Investigation and Aftermath
According to Anna Wolak Gromala from the Krakow City Police Headquarters, police technicians conducted on-site inspections, and the Technical Supervision Authority was notified. The elevator has been taken out of service. The 83-year-old woman suffered a leg injury in the incident.

Separately, before the weekend, the Małopolska police had conducted operations related to winter weather conditions, checking empty buildings and other places where homeless people might seek shelter due to low temperatures.
