US President Donald Trump’s escalator stopped suddenly at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, prompting an investigation into the cause.
Cause of the Incident
The UN Secretariat conducted a technical investigation into the sudden stop of the escalator, which was carrying President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to the upper level of the UN headquarters.
The investigation found that the escalator’s safety system was triggered after a White House cameraman, walking backwards up the stairs to get a better shot, inadvertently activated the safety sensor.
Reactions from Trump and His Administration
President Trump addressed the incident with humor, saying that both the escalator and his teleprompter had caused him problems, but that his speech had become more interesting as a result.
However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested that the escalator may have been stopped intentionally and that those responsible should face consequences.
Teleprompter Issues
