A 5-year-old boy, Antoni R., died from head and facial injuries after being crushed by a falling tree branch during a pruning operation in Lorcin, Poland, on September 12, 2025.
Investigation Underway
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Pułtusk has launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred on September 12, 2025, in Lorcin, Nasielsk municipality, Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki county.
The investigation concerns the alleged abandonment of a minor and causing his death, under Article 160 §2 of the Criminal Code and Article 155 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 11 §2 of the Criminal Code.
Circumstances of the Incident
The boy’s mother had left him in the care of his father while she went home due to health issues related to an advanced pregnancy.
The father, believing his partner was still looking after the child, began pruning a tree near the plot, while the boy was supposed to be accompanied by two other children aged 10 and 11.
However, the boy managed to move out of the designated area unnoticed and was only spotted by his father when he was hit by a falling tree branch.
Medical Response and Autopsy
The boy suffered multiple head and facial injuries and was given emergency medical treatment, then transported by air ambulance to the Children’s Clinical Hospital in Warsaw.
Despite these efforts, the child died on September 13, 2025.
An autopsy was performed, which revealed that the cause of death was a traumatic brain injury.
