Polish Crew Condemns MSZ’s ‘Abrogation of Duty’ After Flotilla Attack

A humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza was attacked by drones overnight on September 23-24, with Poland’s Foreign Ministry responding to criticism from the Polish crew.

Attack on Humanitarian Flotilla

The Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission bound for Gaza, came under drone attack overnight on September 23-24. At least 13 explosions were reported, with around a dozen unidentified cargoes, including stun grenades and an unknown chemical substance, dropped onto at least 10 boats.

The attack caused damage to boats, including one flying the Polish flag, but no injuries were reported. This incident follows a similar attack on the flotilla during a stop in Tunisia.

MSZ Response and Criticism

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ) issued a statement suggesting direct contact with Polish consular services for support. The MSZ stated it was in contact with partners, had received information from Greek authorities, and was monitoring the situation.

The Polish crew on the flotilla criticized the MSZ response as “scandalous and unacceptable,” accusing the ministry of abrogating its duty to protect Polish citizens and instead offering “empty words and procedural concern.”

International Reactions

Italy has dispatched a missile frigate to protect its citizens participating in the flotilla. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated the move aimed to guarantee assistance to Italian nationals.

The United Nations has called for an independent investigation into the drone attacks, with a spokesperson emphasizing that those responsible for the “violations” should be held accountable.
