Trump at UN Dismisses Global Warming, Experts Baffled by False Claims

US President Donald Trump addressed the UN General Assembly, dismissing climate change as a “green scam” and spreading misinformation, sparking criticism from experts and scientists.

Trump’s Climate Claims Debunked

During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Trump repeated several false claims about climate change, including the myth of “global cooling” and the idea that climate change predictions have been wrong. However, scientists and experts quickly fact-checked his statements, pointing out that the science on climate change is clear and overwhelming.

Trump claimed that climate change predictions made by the UN and other institutions have been incorrect, but experts noted that the predictions have actually been very accurate. For example, a study by Zeke Hausfather compared climate model predictions from the 1970s and 1980s with actual temperature increases and found that they were remarkably accurate.

The Reality of Climate Change

Despite Trump’s claims, the data on climate change is clear: the planet is warming rapidly, and human activities such as burning fossil fuels are to blame. The past few years have seen record-breaking temperatures, with 2024 being the hottest year on record. The consequences of climate change are already being felt, with severe weather events and natural disasters causing billions of dollars in damage.

The scientific consensus on climate change is overwhelming, with nearly all climate scientists agreeing that it is real and primarily caused by human activities. The evidence includes rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, melting glaciers, and shifts in the distribution of plants and animals.

Economic Benefits of Renewable Energy

Trump also claimed that transitioning to renewable energy would harm the economy, but experts disagree. In fact, the renewable energy sector is creating jobs and driving economic growth, with solar and wind energy becoming increasingly cost-competitive with fossil fuels.

In 2024, the clean energy sector in the US experienced three times faster job growth than the rest of the economy, despite Trump’s claims that environmental regulations are strangling industry. Globally, investment in clean energy is surging, with China leading the way.
