Train collides with moose, disrupting service near Warsaw

A train struck a moose on the Warsaw Włochy–Warsaw Gołąbki route on Thursday, causing temporary service suspensions.

Incident details

A PKP Intercity train, IC 1856/7 “Gałczyński,” sustained damage after hitting a wild animal, leading to service interruptions. No passengers were injured in the collision.

Traffic was halted on the Warsaw Włochy–Warsaw Gołąbki section while crews addressed the incident and assessed the train’s condition.

Local context

Councilor Magdalena Kurzyńska noted the moose had been frequently seen in the area. She expressed sadness over the accident but confirmed no passengers were harmed.

Ongoing railway works

Recent track maintenance and schedule changes on Warsaw’s western lines have increased vulnerability to disruptions. Single-track operations between Warsaw Gołąbki and Warsaw Włochy since August 31 have heightened sensitivity to incidents.

Service restoration

The carrier confirmed the locomotive was damaged after striking the moose. Service remains suspended until the site is secured and tracks are cleared.
