A 38-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a 51-year-old bus passenger after she intervened in an altercation in Warsaw.

Arrest Made After Media Reports

Thanks to the immense effort of criminal investigators from the Warsaw VI District Police, the perpetrator—a 38-year-old man—was arrested just one day after the victim provided her testimony. Police initially relied on media reports to identify the aggressive attacker. The suspect, a resident of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, was detained on Tuesday afternoon at his workplace in Marek. He was formally charged the following day.

The Incident

Last Saturday, a 51-year-old bus passenger was attacked by an aggressive man. The man first verbally assaulted another woman, likely a Ukrainian citizen, and then struck the 51-year-old, who had come to the woman’s defense, in the face with his head. A witness recorded the incident on their mobile phone.

Police Investigation

The information was quickly reported in the media. Police immediately assisted the victim, contacted her, and took her statement. On the same day, criminal investigators also secured footage from a surveillance camera inside the bus, which helped them identify the man. Investigators worked intensively to locate him. Their operational actions brought them close to making an arrest.

Arrest and Charges

On Tuesday afternoon, operational officers arrested the 38-year-old at his workplace in Marek. He was taken to the police station at ul. Jagiellońska 51. Yesterday, police presented him with charges of publicly insulting a group of people of Ukrainian nationality due to their national affiliation and causing moderate bodily harm to the 51-year-old passenger. He was then taken to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Praga Północ for further proceedings.
