Three-month arrest for copper cable thief who tried to run over a police officer

A 29-year-old man was detained for three months for allegedly assaulting a police officer and stealing copper wires.

Arrest of 29-year-old suspect

The District Court in Szydłowiec issued a three-month detention order for 29-year-old Adrian N., suspected of assaulting a police officer and stealing copper wires. The incident occurred on September 18, 2025, near a service road on the S7 route. The arrest decision was made on September 20, 2025, at the request of the prosecutor.

Details of the crime

Prosecutor Aneta Góźdź, Spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Radom, stated: “On September 20, 2025, the District Court in Szydłowiec, at the request of the prosecutor, imposed a three-month detention on Adrian N., 29, suspected of committing a crime under Article 223 § 1 of the Criminal Code.”

According to investigative findings, on September 18, 2025, Adrian N., acting in concert with another identified man, allegedly stole copper wires worth 20,000 złotys after cutting them from electrical poles. The perpetrators used a Nissan Primera. “Adrian N. committed this act under recidivism conditions,” Prosecutor Góźdź informed.

Assault on police officer

During an attempted escape, the driver of the Nissan hit a police officer from the Szydłowiec County Police Command who tried to stop the suspects. “The victim fell onto the car’s hood, where he was dragged at high speed before falling to the ground. Adrian N.’s actions endangered the police officer’s life or health,” the spokesperson reported.

After his arrest, the suspect was interrogated. “Adrian N. did not confess to the alleged crime and refused to provide explanations. He faces a penalty of one to ten years of imprisonment,” Prosecutor Aneta Góźdź stated.

The case is being handled by the Local Office of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przysucha, based in Szydłowiec, covering both the offense attributed to Adrian N. and the theft involving a second suspect.
