A 19-year-old woman caused a deadly accident on National Road 11 in Rogaszyce, where her car burst into flames after hitting 260 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
Tragic Accident on National Road 11
On October 9, 2023, a fatal crash occurred on National Road 11 in Rogaszyce. A 19-year-old woman was charged in connection with the accident, which resulted in the death of a 17-year-old passenger. In August 2023, the District Court in Ostrzeszów sentenced the woman to 18 months in prison, imposed an eight-year driving ban, and ordered her to pay 50,000 zł in compensation to two family members of the deceased teenager.
Appeal Court Increases Sentence
The Regional Court in Kalisz upheld the initial verdict but increased the prison sentence to three years, deeming the original penalty too lenient. The court ruled that the defendant had deliberately violated traffic safety rules by driving at excessive speed. The defendant claimed her friends encouraged her to speed, but she was recorded driving at 260 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
Details of the Crash
The woman lost control of the car, causing it to flip, crash into a field, and catch fire. One passenger, a 17-year-old, died from his injuries, while another, also 19, was hospitalized. Prosecutor Maciej Meler stated that the driver failed to take necessary precautions and adequately monitor the road conditions.
