Collision Details
A train and a truck collided on September 26 at 7:26 AM local time between Rudnia and Golynki stations on the Moscow Railway, about 45 km west of Smolensk. According to Nexta, the truck driver entered the tracks just before the approaching train. Initial reports indicate that the locomotive and at least six of the 18 fuel-carrying wagons caught fire. The train’s engineer and assistant required medical assistance. Unofficial reports suggest the truck driver died, as reported by Tass.
Footage Emerges
Videos of the incident quickly surfaced online, including footage released by Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations. Train services in the area were suspended following the crash.
Investigation Underway
Firefighting efforts continue, with around 40 firefighters and 10 units of equipment involved. The Russian Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into traffic safety violations. Authorities have also opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Russian Criminal Code, which pertains to violations of railway traffic safety rules.
