Poland will switch to winter time on the night of October 26, moving clocks back one hour.
When does the time change occur?
The time change will take place on the night from Saturday to Sunday, October 26. All residents in Poland will need to set their clocks back one hour, specifically from 3:00 AM to 2:00 AM. This year’s time change is slightly earlier than in previous years. In 2022, daylight saving time ended on October 30, in 2023 on October 29, and in 2024 on October 27. Next year, the time change is scheduled for October 25.
How does the time change affect the body?
According to SWPS University, the time change disrupts the body’s biological clock. This clock regulates functions such as sleep, wakefulness, digestion, body temperature, and mood. “Its functioning is closely linked to the availability of light or darkness. The time change is essentially a disruption of our biological clock through manipulation of light availability,” explained Prof. Marta Jackowska, a health psychologist from SWPS University in Sopot.
When was the time change introduced?
The time change was introduced in 1916 during World War I. It was initiated by the Germans to more efficiently utilize natural light and save electricity. “Today, few people see any benefit or usefulness in this practice, and the negative effects on our health and well-being clearly suggest that the time change does more harm than good,” summarized Prof. Marta Jackowska.
