Moldova’s pro-European PAS party won 49.5% of the vote, while the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc took 24.5%.
Preliminary results and implications
According to preliminary results, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) secured 49.5% of the votes, while the pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc (PEB) received 24.5%. Other parties entering parliament include the Alternative Bloc, Our Party, and the People’s Power Party of populist Vasile Costiuc.
BBC calculations suggest PAS could gain 54 seats in the 101-member parliament, meaning the ruling party may not need a coalition partner.
Political landscape shift
The victory solidifies PAS’s pro-European stance, contrasting with the pro-Russian PEB’s performance. The outcome reflects Moldova’s ongoing political and geopolitical divisions.
