Tram lines return to Słomińskiego after three-month overhaul

After a three-month closure, tram services resume on Słomińskiego Street, including the Gdańsk Bridge and Starzyński Roundabout.

Service resumption and route adjustments

From Monday, September 29, trams resume operations along Słomińskiego Street, crossing the Gdańsk Bridge, Starzyńskiego Street, and Międzyparkową Street, completing the city’s track renovation as scheduled.

Line 1 (Żerań Wschodni/Annopol – pl. Narutowicza) returns to its tracks, while Line 6 (Metro Młociny – Gocławek) and Line 28 (Dworzec Wschodni – Os. Górczewska) resume their regular routes. Line 18 remains on a detour between PKP Służewiec and pl. Narutowicza. Substitute lines Z-5 and 70 cease operations, with Line 27 rerouted to the Żerań FSO loop via the Gdańsk Bridge, as confirmed by city and transport authority announcements.

Infrastructure upgrades

The project covered the section from the Zgrupowania AK „Radosław” roundabout to the Gdańsk Bridge entrance, including track replacement, drainage improvements, and extensive upgrades to traction poles and lines. The work was divided between an external contractor for the western segment (up to the Gdańsk Station viaduct) and Warsaw Trams for the eastern portion.

Station and traffic modifications

Stop locations and designs have been updated, including relocating the Baseny Inflancka stop to shorten pedestrian access from the shopping center and extending platforms at Gdańsk Station. Safety enhancements near Traugutta Park include a temporary pedestrian crossing with speed-reducing islands, with plans for future traffic light installation prioritizing trams.

A permanent traffic organization is introduced at the intersection with Pamiętajcie o Ogrodach Street, eliminating left turns toward the Zgrupowania AK „Radosław” roundabout and adjusting lanes for straight and left-turn traffic toward the Gdańsk Bridge, as confirmed by the city’s information service.

Green track enhancements

A green track section has been installed from Gdańsk Station toward the „Radosław” roundabout, featuring a trackside walkway. A second section toward the Gdańsk Bridge will be greened this autumn as part of a separate project without disrupting tram operations.

Project significance

The city highlights that the Słomińskiego Street overhaul was one of the largest track projects of the year, covering over 3 km of single-track lines and coordinated with road and traffic safety works in the Traugutta Park area.
