Grandfather and Granddaughter Fatally Injured by Railbus in Podkarpackie

An 88‑year‑old man and his 11‑year‑old granddaughter were struck and killed by a railbus in the Podkarpackie region of Poland after crossing an unmarked railway crossing at around 4 p.m.

Podkarpackie Region: Railbus Strikes Grandfather and Granddaughter

At just after 4 p.m. a railbus travelling toward Jaślan from the high ground of Chorzelów collided with an 88‑year‑old man and his 11‑year‑old granddaughter on an unmarked railway crossing in Podkarpackie, Poland.

Police Investigate Circumstances

Bernadetta Krawczyk of Mielc County Police said the older man was walking with the child across an unmarked crossing when the railbus struck them. Neither victim was rescued.

The police are examining the incident under the supervision of prosecutors.

Railway Notice

PKP Intercity announced that, “due to the cross‑incident, train traffic was suspended on the Mielec‑Chorzelów section.”

IC train 32113/2 “HETMAN” (Kraków Główny – Hrubieszów Miasto) was canceled between Mielec and Hrubieszów Miasto, and IC train 23110/1 “KASZTELAN” (Hrubieszów Miasto – Kraków Główny) was ceased on the Padew–Kraków Główny section. Replacement bus services were arranged for the affected sections. Passengers were urged to listen to the announced information.
