Poland and Finland Deploy Troops to Denmark Ahead of EU Summit

Poland and Finland have committed up to 30 soldiers each to reinforce Denmark’s forces ahead of an EU summit in Copenhagen, citing a need for the right to use force.

Poland Deploys 30 Soldiers to Denmark

Karol Nawrocki signed a decision to deploy a Polish Military Contingent of up to 30 soldiers from 30 September to 3 October 2025.

The National Security Bureau announced the action and confirmed that Polish troops will reinforce Danish Armed Forces during this period.

Polish soldiers will be equipped with specialist gear to protect military and civilian areas, underscoring Poland’s active role in strengthening international security.

Finland Sends Drone‑Detection Unit

Finland approved the deployment after Denmark’s formal request, with President Alexander Stubb giving final approval.

The Finnish Armed Forces unit specializes in detecting and neutralizing drones and has the right to use force if the situation demands.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and President Stubb highlighted Nordic solidarity and interagency cooperation, noting the mission’s focus on safeguarding Danish airspace during the summit.

Denmark Prepares for EU Summit

On 1 October a European Union summit will begin in Copenhagen, with Denmark currently chairing the bloc.

Key topics include strengthening European defence—particularly the eastern flank—and supporting Ukraine.

Preparations are underway for a Brussels summit in three weeks, with projects such as the East Flank Guard and a proposed drone‑defence wall part of the agenda.

European Leaders Pledge Anti‑Drone Support

France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Finland, and Ukraine have committed troops and anti‑drone systems to assist Denmark.

Ursula von der Leyen stressed the need for a decisive response to Russian drone attacks on European borders.

Combined efforts aim to reinforce Denmark’s security amid growing hybrid threats.
