Mieszko R.: Psychiatric Observation Must End by Oct. 26, 2025

Prosecutor Piotr Skiba announced that the court‑psychiatric observation of Mieszko R., accused of a brutal murder at the University of Warsaw, must conclude by 26 October 2025.

Observation Deadline

Piotr A. Skiba, prosecutor at the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, stated that the psychiatric observation should finish within eight weeks from its start, setting a deadline of 26 October 2025.

Background of Mieszko R.

Previously examined in the psychiatric ward of the prison hospital at the Areszt Śledczy in Poznań, Mieszko R. is a 22‑year‑old law student at the University of Warsaw.

Crime Details

On 7 May, he entered the campus armed with a sledgehammer, attacking people. He killed a front‑desk employee and injured a campus security guard before being subdued by a State Protection Service officer.

Charges

Mieszko R. faces charges of murder of the front‑desk employee, desecration of her corpse, attempted murder of the security guard, and assault on a policeman. A verdict of sanity could lead to a life‑sentence.

Current Status

The attacker remains detained, with his arrest extended by the court to February 2026.
