Estonia Discloses Arrest of Polish Citizen Seeking to Join Putin’s Army

Estonia. A Polish citizen who sought to join Putin’s army was arrested in Estonia. The Viru District Court decided on a two‑month detention for the 49‑year‑old citizen. He was stopped while attempting an illegal crossing of the Estonian‑Russian border during the second week of August. The BNS agency reported that the Polish man had tried to cross the Narva River on an inflatable mattress to get into Russia and fight in Ukraine for Moscow.

Failed Attempt to Reach Russia

The Polish man arrived in Estonia from Serbia. At the time of his arrest, he possessed items indicating support for Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, according to the Estonian prosecutor’s office. Prosecutor Gardi Anderson explained that enlisting in the Russian Federation army poses a security threat to Estonia and the European Union. Due to the suspect’s motivations and the risk of escape or another attempt to reach Russia, an arrest request was made; the court accepted it. Estonian Internal Security Service spokeswoman Marta Tuul said that participating in an aggressor state’s war is a crime in Estonia, applicable also to foreigners who facilitate Russian military actions via Estonian territory.

War in Ukraine – Russia Breaks Line in Donetsk Region

Russian forces have moved beyond the frontline in the Donbas area. The agency Unian reported on August 13 that over 100,000 soldiers were deployed near Pokrovsk and Donetsk, tasked with eliminating assault‑disruption groups. Russian troops advance because Vladimir Putin, before talks with Donald Trump, seeks a significant advantage on the battlefield, Ukrainian media assessed. Leaders are slated to meet in Alaska on August 15.
