Police in Warsaw’s Praga North depot arrested a 49‑year‑old driver who, despite court‑issued driving bans and drug use, transported a young woman in the trunk of his Volkswagen.
Young woman transported in trunk
Authorities discovered a 25‑year‑old woman inside the trunk of a Volkswagen. She was unharmed and later admitted she chose to travel in the trunk because she was exhausted.
Driver arrested and detained
Police seized the car keys, handcuffed the 49‑year‑old driver, and extracted him from the trunk. He was taken to the police station for questioning.
Criminal record and court bans
The driver had two court‑issued suspensions preventing him from driving until October 2027, issued by Warsaw Praga‑Południe and Warsaw‑Woli courts. He had prior convictions for driving under influence and multiple detentions for driving despite bans.
Drug and alcohol testing
An alcohol test returned negative, but a drug screen confirmed the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine, which he admitted to using.
Vehicle lacks required documentation
The Volkswagen showed no valid technical inspection certificate or current liability insurance.
Investigation and charges
On Friday, the suspect faced a charge of driving under drug influence while already convicted for driving under influence during the ban period. He could face up to five years imprisonment. The case is overseen by the Warsaw‑Praga North District Prosecutor’s Office.
