Not Tusk, but Nawrocki Joined Trump in Teleconference – We Knew Since Yesterday

President Karol Nawrocki participated Wednesday in a teleconference with U.S. President Donald Trump, alongside other European leaders. Earlier that Tuesday, the government spokesperson had reported that Donald Tusk would represent Poland. The President’s Office has addressed the confusion.

War Talks Regarding Ukraine Situation

On Wednesday afternoon, leaders from Germany, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland joined a video conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Poland was represented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk during these talks. An hour later, the European leaders connected with U.S. President Donald Trump. In this session, President Karol Nawrocki participated instead. The government spokesperson’s Tuesday statement claimed that it was Tusk who would engage with the American president. At 16:30, another meeting of European leaders, attended by Tusk, was scheduled.

Karol Nawrocki Ties Up With Trump on the Teleconference

“The conversation, lasting over an hour, just ended. President Karol Nawrocki spoke with the U.S. President, and leaders from other countries also joined — including the German Chancellor, the UK Prime Minister, the Italian Prime Minister, the French President, Ursula von der Leyen, and the NATO Secretary General, as well as Finland’s President. It was a tight group of the most engaged European policymakers,” said Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Office of the President’s Office, around 17:00 on Wednesday.

Only Hard Measures Can Contain Russia

President Nawrocki reiterated a stance that has been present for months and years, given Russia’s aggressive policy: only strong language and decisive, hard actions can restrain the federation. “We cannot allow Russia to decide how Europe’s borders will look or which directions other states will pursue foreign policy,” he said. Marcin Przydacz noted that a final resolution of the Ukraine war must involve Ukrainian authorities, reminding that on September 3, Nawrocki will meet Trump at the White House.

They Have No Contact With Americans

Marcin Przydacz also responded to statements from government spokesperson Adam Szłapka, who on Tuesday had announced that Tusk would participate in talks with Trump. “I was quite surprised by these comments from the spokesperson and some ministers, which seemed at odds with reality. From yesterday, we knew who was attending – Nawrocki – and I had no idea where the spokesperson got his information from,” he said. “I have no knowledge of any changes. Nawrocki was invited to the discussion with Trump and other European leaders, and there was no prior plan for Tusk’s participation.”

Trump–Putin Meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump will meet on Friday in Alaska with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The discussion will focus on ending the war in Ukraine. The White House confirmed Anchorage as the venue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will not attend the meeting. Donald Trump announced that he would contact Zelensky immediately after the meeting to inform him of the results.
