Moscow has suspended diplomatic discussions with Washington regarding Ukraine, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declaring the dialogue has been severely interrupted.
Dialogue with Washington Halted
Dmitry Peskov said the conversation intended to end the war has stalled. “The dialogue between Moscow and Washington has been severely interrupted,” he told reporters, citing TASS. He added that a possible next meeting between Putin and Trump is not currently on the agenda and noted the U.S. has yet to respond to the Kremlin’s proposal to extend the New START treaty.
New START Treaty Awaited
Peskov reminded that on Monday, October 6, Putin welcomed Trump’s comment that the Russian proposal was a “good idea.” Kremlin proposes extending the New START treaty’s term, but the U.S. has not responded beyond the president’s remarks. Russia claims readiness for talks, yet the American side shows no initiative.
Silence in Ankara
Peskov also said the pause occurred in talks in Ankara between Russia and Ukraine. He stated that in the process of dialogue in Ankara there was a serious break. On July 23, a third round of peace talks was held where parties presented memoranda but reached no agreement. The Ukrainian side did not respond to the documents, leading Peskov to say “nothing is happening.” Decision on a fourth round will be made after agreements are reached.
