Tomahawk Missiles for Ukraine: Trump‑Zelensky Call Reveals Details

U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky exchanged a 30‑minute phone call on Saturday, during which the potential delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv was reportedly discussed.

Phone Call Between Trump and Zelensky

On Saturday, President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Donald Trump spoke by phone. The conversation focused on strengthening Ukraine and pressing Russia toward a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Fortifying Ukraine’s Air Defense

Zelensky thanked the United States for its commitment to further engagement in ending the war and highlighted the recent Gaza agreement, noting that ending one war could mean ending others, including Russia’s.

He briefed Trump on Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and discussed options for enhancing air‑defence capabilities.

Proposed Tomahawk Delivery

Axios reports that the leaders also spoke about sending long‑range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Experts suggest that providing such weapons could pressure Moscow to consider peace talks, though no concrete agreement was reached.

The call, lasting roughly 30 minutes, was described by Zelensky as “very positive and productive.” He had previously requested Tomahawks during a meeting at the UN General Assembly in September.

Earlier this week, Trump told reporters that he had “in some way” decided to supply Tomahawk missiles to NATO countries that might forward them to Ukraine.

Expert Opinion on Tomahawk Use

Konrad Muzyka, an independent Russian and Belarusian military analyst, argued that delivering Tomahawks would not change battlefield conditions but could be effective if used against critical Russian infrastructure rather than military targets.

He warned that Russia, as it currently operates, could struggle to sustain itself if such attacks were carried out.
